We inspire people to plant, nurture, and celebrate trees. This simple mission is how it all began for the Arbor Day Foundation.

And fifty years later, that mission is more important than ever.

Over the course of our history, we have helped evolve how people view trees — from a way to beautify our yards and landscapes to a key part of the solution to some of the biggest issues facing our planet.

Trees and forests help slow climate change. They foster biodiversity and help keep our ecosystems in balance. They cool our cities and provide equity in neighborhoods in need of green space.

We plant trees because people need trees.

In the last fifty years, the Arbor Day Foundation has planted and distributed nearly 500 million trees in more than fifty countries around the world to fight global issues facing humankind.

Together with our dedicated members, supporters, and network of partners, we have accomplished so much. But we’re just getting started.

We know trees are critical to providing the kind of transformational change the world needs today to ensure a better tomorrow for everyone.
